Give us a Wink

Full disclosure, I have to be very careful with the kind of eye makeup I use. Even those marketed as “hypo-allergenic” or “approved for sensitive eyes” have sent my baby blues into a tailspin. But when I came in one day and realized I had completely neglected any form of eye makeup at all (I blame the distraction that is Matt Lauer), I took a chance and volunteered to test out Givenchy’s new Noir Couture mascara in Black Satin that had just arrived (It’s also available in Brown Satin).

Givenchy - new Noir Couture mascara - Vanity rates beauty productsFirst of all, the case is beautifully designed, fitting with the name “couture,” sleek and shiny, with silver accents. The brush, well, that comes as a surprise. It’s like three tiny brush “balls.” The mascara itself has a very smooth texture, with lipids to protect and restructure lashes, Artemia salina extract to stimulate lashes, and cotton nectar to nourish them.

While I do not understand science, I do understand that with just a couple of strokes, my lashes looked longer, thicker, and, dare I say it, glamorous, with nary a clump in sight. It “gave” me lashes I didn’t even know I had! And it lasts all day, with no flakes or cakes, and then comes right off with soap and water. Even better, it hasn’t caused my eyes the slightest bit of trouble.

Noir Couture definitely lives up to its name—dark and dressy, for the mysterious and glamorous gal about town; or, at least for this humble magazine editor. See for yourself when it launches in August at Sephora stores and sephora.com.
