As the quintessential morning person, Amy Sedlacek sets the alarm to buzz her awake at 1 a.m. for her early morning newscast. Despite the grueling schedule, Sedlacek is a dynamo, full of cheerful energy. Some of that is attributed to her daily consumption of caffeine and sugar (the petite Sedlacek confesses to an oversized sweet tooth), but mostly it reflects her zest for life. An inquisitive nature and a desire to tell people’s stories have been key to her professional success.
As a driven self-starter, Sedlacek rose through the news ranks from audio operator to one-man-band reporter, producer and finally, anchor. She is also driven to give back, volunteering about 20 hours a week to dozens of area charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collier and Lee counties and Dress for Success.
Sedlacek’s primary passion is the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. For the second year she is co-chair of the President’s Council and co-chair of the annual Wishmaker’s Ball. In 2012, she was honored as the nonprofit’s Wish Granter of the Year.
A Wish Granter, she says, is like being fairy godmother, discovering a child’s wish and then working to make it happen. She does the big things, like gathering donations and finding businesses to help, as well as little things, like taking kids for ice cream, sending cards, calls and texts to keep their spirits up, and visiting them in the hospital. Sedlacek grants about five wishes a year.
Hobbies and pastimes: When not volunteering or emceeing an event I’m probably taking a nap! Photography is a favorite hobby. I love to take pictures of the places I travel and catch moments that are not posed and you capture a look of surprise or pure joy.

Guilty pleasures: Norman Love Confections gelato, pastries, chocolate. I haven’t met a cupcake I can resist or gelato sundae I haven’t devoured. A good glass of Champagne, too. And you will never disappoint me with Starbucks.
Purr-fect pet: My cat Lexi, who I rescued as a kitten, has been my companion for 14 years. Thank goodness she can’t talk; oh, the stories she’d tell!
Fashion essentials: Boots! I love “winter” in Florida; give me a 60-degree day and I’m in skinny jeans, boots and a scarf. Otherwise it’s fun heels and a great dress. I love lace, polka dots, ruffles and bows. I am a girly girl.
