Arturo Balandra, M.D., a board-certified urologist, has practiced medicine since 2006. He particularly enjoys the field because minimally invasive procedures in urology often dramatically improve his patient’s lives. “As a young boy, I knew I wanted a career that would involve helping people. I love science, so medicine was a natural,” he says.
His Ivy League education includes undergraduate work at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and an M.D. degree from the Pereleman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (consistently one of the top medical schools in the country). During Dr. Balandra’s academic career, he was on a full meritbased scholarship and graduated with high honors. In his practice, he diagnoses and treats erectile dysfunction, incontinence, and voiding dysfunction including penile implants, artificial urinary sphincters, male and female sling placements, sacral neurostimulation, and laser treatments for prostatic enlargement, among others. Because he is on the forefront of technology and has use of state-of-the-art technology, many of his procedures are minimally invasive.
While much of his emphasis is on men’s health, he also treats women. He has an interest in both male and female pelvic health and completed several specialized training programs in this field. Dr. Balandra believes in partnering with his patients to come up with solutions and treatment for their medical issues. “What I do is for a better quality of life. You don’t have to live with problems,” he explains.
When a patient comes to see Dr Balandra for the first time, he takes time to talk to them so they become comfortable enough to discuss their problems. This is only one of the reasons he is rated so highly by his patients.
“If you can’t enjoy things and are hindered by urination problems, I don’t want you to think that you are going to have to do some huge invasive procedure to make them go away,” he says.
