What better way to experience Southwest Florida’s picturesque scenery than by the light of the full moon? Here are three ways to bask in the glow of the celestial orb on or about April 22, when it will shine its brightest.

Adventures Kayaking (239-601-6976) organizes excursions in Collier and Lee counties, bringing kayaks and paddleboards directly to you. On the full-moon tours, guides lead trips from the Bonita Springs water tower west through the mangroves to Big Hickory Island, accessible only by boat. Founder Glenn Novotny recommends scheduling a tour for the day before the full moon in case of stormy weather.

For stand-up paddlers, Sweetwater Paddlesports (239-405-7155) offers full-moon paddle events and private group tours by request. On these trips, co-owner Brandon Greer and his guides lead groups to the back of the bay in Bonita Springs to watch the sun set and the moon rise.

Farther south on Marco Island, guided moonlight and full-moon kayak trips are available year-round through Kayak Marco Island (239-695-0067). Tours range from an hour and a half to two hours and launch from a variety of sites, including Caxambas Park on Marco Island and the Rookery Bay Preserve and Isle of Capri Kayak Park in Naples. Each month, a series of tours are planned at times when you can experience the best views of the full moon.
