Salon owner and celebrity stylist Philip Douglas’ accent gives away his Massachusetts roots, even though he left the state decades ago. He grew up with five sisters and a brother, and describes his family as My Big Fat Greek Wedding. He’s not Greek, but with many extended family members—even all eight great-grandparents—living within walking distance of each other, life resembled the film. He was always artistically gifted, and his beauty career unofficially began at age 17 when his mother enlisted him to redo a horrible hairstyle his oldest sister, Paula, got at their grandmother’s hairdresser the day of her prom. He began hairdressing school shortly after. As generous philanthropists, Douglas and his spouse, Doug Olsen, who have four dogs, lend huge support to Humane Society Naples. For years they have supported Naples Botanical Garden’s Hats in the Garden, coordinating hair and makeup for fashion shows, and are involved in myriad other charities.

Philanthropy means giving of one’s time and mind–the most valuable of all donations–and second, a generous check is always in fashion!

Personal style: Casual, fashionable, but with an edge.

Proud moments: Winning the 2015 Animaltarian Award with Doug Olsen, from Humane Society Naples; the Hope and Sunshine awards from American Cancer Society; and American First Place in an international styling competition, then representing the United States in Paris.

How he spends a free day: I love to spend a day in the garden, just me and the beauty of Mother Nature.

Guilty pleasures: Binge watching—lately, Game of Thrones, and a British show, Vicious. I binge read, too, mostly women’s biographies—Marie Antoinette, Bloody Mary, Queen Elizabeth I, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford. I find women who have had greatness thrust upon them fascinating.

Bucket list: To travel to Egypt, see the Pyramids, and take a balloon ride down the Nile.
