Bacon-wrapped shrimp, chocolate-covered bacon and maple-bacon frozen yogurt complete with bacon topping are just a taste of the variety of treats to be included at the first-ever BaconFest Naples. Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Pelican Bay, a group of volunteers who sponsor leadership programs for local children, the two-day event will feature bacon-themed fun for the entire family.
The VIP night will take place on Friday, November 7, at 6:30 on the Hodges University campus, where guests will enjoy a catered dinner, a night of dancing to live music and the chance to watch two popular chefs compete for the title of Bacon King or Queen.
Jessica Macera, club co-chair, says, “The Friday night Bacon Battle will feature a chef competition, bacon-vodka beverages and a winner crowned by the crowd.”
Funds raised from the evening will go towards a scholarship for veterans at Hodges University.
A day of food and fun follows on November 8. Saturday will feature booths with merchandise and creative bacon-themed dishes. Culinary delights include chocolate-chip and pecan-smoked bacon cookies, bacon-wrapped dates with goat cheese and maple candied bacon tarts, just to name a few. There will be beer, bands and a variety of games and activities for the entire family.
Saturday’s proceeds will benefit local child-related charities supported by the Kiwanis Club.
“We want to do more to support the youth in our community, and we wanted a fun, family-friendly event for our residents,” says Macera. “Hopefully, this event will raise awareness of the clubs and promote memberships, and the funds will allow us to reopen and add programs.”
