The Baker Museum Reopens for the Season

Those who have been craving their daily art fix can rest easy – The Baker Museum is reopening for the season on September 6, and guests can expect four new exhibitions to kick off the premier.

With an array of works including paintings, photography, and sculptures on display, there will be something to satisfy everyone’s creative tastes.

Here are some highlights:


New Acquisitions: In Context (on display through October 23)

This exhibition will showcase more than 50 new acquisitions from the collection of Paul and Charlotte Corddry. It will feature an eclectic body of work that juxtaposes classic artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Robert Rauschenberg, with contemporary counterparts such as Marilyn Minter and Zak Smith. The exhibition will also explore the connection between the new acquisitions and important pieces that are part of the museum’s permanent collection.

Photographer Sans Frontiéres (on display through November 13)

The first retrospective exhibition of Naples-based photographer Harry De Zitter, Photographer Sans Frontiéres will feature a selection of 100 images taken throughout his life. The exhibit includes iconic images from his advertising campaigns as well as selections from his artistic photography that feature his first paid landscape made in Argentina and his most recent photograph shot in South Africa. There will be small vignettes to accompany the collection as a form of storytelling.

The Olga Hirshhorn Collection

This exhibition will celebrate the collection Olga Hirshhorn left to the Baker Museum, and will include works by modern American and European artists such as Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, and Georgia O’Keeffe. The exhibition examines recurring themes in her collection including the friendships she and her husband maintained with prominent artists, and loans from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will also complement the works on display.


Schrenk Student Photography Exhibition

Perfect for rising photographers, The Schrenk Student Photography Institute’s intensive program selects up to 20 students per year to be featured in this annual exhibition, which showcases the chosen students’ finest works of photography.
