Opera Naples Festival Under the Stars: West Side Story
March 10 @ 7:00 pm - March 13 @ 12:00 am$25 – $125
Opera Naples, one of Naples’ leading performing arts organizations, will present the symphony concert version of the much-loved Broadway musical “West Side Story” on March 12 at 7 p.m. The production will be part of the multiday inaugural Opera Naples Festival Under the Stars at Baker Park.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” “West Side Story” is a 1957 musical composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. Set against an urban background of interracial warfare, the musical touches on many themes that still fully resonate with audiences today.
The Opera Naples Festival will also feature renowned top tenor Joseph Calleja on March 10 and one of the world’s most popular operas, “La Traviata” on March 11 and 13. Soprano Leah Partridge and Tenor Dimitri Pittas, both veteran Metropolitan Opera artists, will take on the lead roles of Violetta and Alfredo.
Planned safety and health protocols at Baker Park will include socially distanced seating, face coverings, paperless ticket entry, and digital playbills. Staff, ushers, and volunteers will be required to wear masks. Artists and musicians will be positioned at a safe distance.
