Kiersten K. Mooney

Owner and Founder, Bala Vinyasa Yoga; Partner, Green Monkey Yoga

Since opening Bala Vinyasa Yoga eight years ago, Kiersten Mooney’s business has grown to two studios in Naples and one in Coral Gables. Recently, Bala Vinyasa partnered with Green Monkey Yoga studios in Miami to offer retreats and advanced teacher training. The Lely High School graduate, who grew up on Marco Island, previously owned a wellness company called Tour de Force Inc. and has experience as a personal trainer for pro athletes. Her avocation encompasses her spare time as well, even traveling to Washington, D.C., to teach yoga at the White House’s Easter Egg Roll in 2011.

Mooney serves as a member of the Leadership Board for the Africa Yoga Project and as facilitator of its yoga teacher training in Nairobi. She hosts free yoga classes for autistic children bimonthly at Easter Seals’ Lily School and for patients in David Lawrence Center’s Crossroads program, as well as classes at the Naples Botanical Garden that have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the garden. Additionally, she has helped raise funds for Cancer Alliance of Naples, St. Matthew’s House and other nonprofits.

Where she dines: The Grill Room at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, Café Alfredo, Bistro 821, and anywhere Chef Brian Roland is cooking.

Favorite reads: The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. Also, a new book I’m writing the foreword for called eMolecule by Mary Todd. It’s about using your entrepreneurial spirit to create a more fulfilling life, which I can totally relate to.

Guilty pleasures: A dirty martini (and dessert!)

Three things few know about me: I lived on a sailboat for almost a year as a kid—that is how my family ended up living on Marco Island. I have seven stepchildren and 15 grandkids aged 12 and younger. My grandkids call me “Gigi.”

Go-to fashion accessories: Gold hoop earrings from Calypso St. Barth and my Cupcake Ring from Amanda Jaron.
