Maybe we’re suffering from Downton Abbey withdrawal, or the impending arrival of the royal baby has us looking for an excuse to say “cheerio” with a traditional British gesture. Whatever it is, in Naples and across the country, there’s nothing hitting the spot right now better than a spot of tea, and our town has several options to fit any fancy.
- Brambles (239-262-7894): The focus here for two decades has been squarely on the act of tea. A cozy vibe is exuded with lace tablecloths and floral wallpaper—making you think an English grandmum had something to do with it. Key to its staying power is the menu’s variety, from scones and bubbly to shepherd’s pie and croissant sandwiches.
- Tea with Me at Audrey’s (239-403-8322): If vintage shopping is on your to-do list, knock off two birds with one stone in a visit to the Design District consignment store Audrey’s. A few years back it opened the adjoining tea salon, which has delightfully mismatched Victorian decor and an assortment of brews, lunch items and savories like Cornish pasty.
- High Tea at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples (239-598-3300): Reservations are recommended for this formal affair held each Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the lobby lounge. With Mother’s Day around the corner, it’s an excellent choice instead the more prevalent brunch. In addition to typical treats on a three-tiered platter, the experience starts with a toast of chilled Champagne.
- Teavana (239-513-1206): Opened last year, this outpost of an expanding national retailer has all a worldly connoisseur could possibly covet—instant hot water dispensers, beautiful Belle Amitie glass infusers, Japanese cast iron pots and teas from every corner of the globe (Argentinean mate, South African rooibos, Indian chai).
