Marching Orders

Fifth Avenue South plays host to parties all year, including the Evening on Fifth (coming up March 14) with live music and other entertainment. This month one of the best-loved holidays also hits the street: St. Patrick’s Day. The thirty-fifth annual parade (stpatricksparadenaples.com)—the largest privately funded parade in Florida—winds along FAS March 16. It attracts 40,000 spectators for the “wearing o’ the green” and a celebration of Irish heritage.

Revelers pack McCabe’s Irish Pub & Grill and extra tables and bars set on the adjacent Sugden Plaza to partake of corned beef, cabbage and shepherd’s pie, along with the essential Guinness Stout, Harp Ale and live tunes by West of Galway, Derek Trenholm Band, Cliff Erikson, and the Harp and Thistle Pipes and Drums. McCabe’s does it again on March 17. As the toast goes in Erin—sláinte!
