Marco Island is getting in the Christmas spirit when Christmas Island Style brings a full slate of events throughout December.
On Friday, December 19, gather around the tree at Veterans Community Park for a screening of the Will Ferrell classic, Elf. Follow the antics of Buddy (Ferrell), who rose as an elf in the North Pole, inadvertently wreaks havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size. Sent to the U.S., Buddy searches for his true identity.
- Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic baskets.
- The movie begins at 6 p.m.
- Admission is free.
On December 20, the Marco Island Academy Shakespeare Ensemble look to the Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare himself, for a little yuletide cheer this season. Performed by students from the Marco Island Academy, ages 14-17, “Yuletide Shakespeare” will include sonnets and scenes from some of the Bard’s most renowned works, including Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth, and The Tempest.
Part of the Marco Island Shakespeare Festival, “Yuletide Shakespeare” is the culmination of an eight-week workshop that included in-depth character study and performance technique study in delivering poetry and the complex beauty of dialogue in Shakespeare’s plays.
