Bjorn Fratangelo excels at No. 1 rankings. The tennis phenom has held the top spot in the United States Tennis Association’s Boys 14, 16 and 18 age divisions. Along the way, Fratangelo has won some of the most prestigious junior tournaments. Major titles include the 2008 Boys 14 Winter Nationals, the 2009 and 2010 Boys 16 Clay Court Championships and the 2010 Boys 18 Clay Court Championships. Fratangelo, who is coached by his father, considers 2011 a breakout year. “In June, I became the first American boy since John McEnroe to win the French Open boys’ title in Paris,” Fratangelo says. “This was really when the tennis world started to get to know me.”

With the win in Paris, he reached a career high of No. 2 in the International Tennis Federation World Junior Rankings. He returned to the States and posted impressive results on the USTA Pro Circuit, reaching the final in the $10,000 event in Pittsburgh and the quarterfinals of a $15,000 event in Canada. With his junior career behind him, Fratangelo is currently deciding whether to turn pro or go to college. “Both are good decisions,” he says. “I’m just figuring out what will be best for me.”
