NI: How did you get involved with The Shelter’s event?

Evancho: They reached out to my management team and asked if I would be a part of their luncheon, and after learning more about what The Shelter was and what they do, I was excited to get involved. It’s a really great honor to help out.

How did you get started on this career path that you are on? When did you realize you wanted to sing opera?

I’ve always loved singing, and as a little girl I would always be singing little songs like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” It was after I saw the movie Phantom of the Opera with my family and fell in love with the music that I began singing those songs around the house. My mom asked if I would want to do a local talent competition and I did. From that point forward it was about trying to get seen. Then America’s Got Talent came around, and that’s where I had my big break.

You’ve done a little bit of crossover into the pop music scene; any interest in further delving into that or any other musical genre?

I really enjoy having variety in my music. I know that I will stay true to my classical crossover sound but I definitely want to experiment in different areas in the future.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years? Any career and personal goals that you have in mind?

I want to be a multi-tasker. I want to continue with my career as a professional singer, but I also would like to be a model, and maybe get into some acting; you never know.
