Neapolitans play outdoors year-round, which makes us vulnerable to sun overexposure, especially during the summer. Take cover in sportswear made from high-tech fabrics that not only protect your skin, but also keep you cool and comfy. A couple of brands to try:
Fashion-forward clothing with a certification of 50 UPF by Chicago-based Mott 50 was dreamed up by friends Monique Hypes and Anne Reilly on a beach in the Hamptons. The line, available in Naples at Tickled Pink (239-435-0004), includes tops, pants, dresses, cover-ups, and hats for women. “As fashion and travel lovers, we wanted basic, easy-to-wear clothes in light, breathable fabrics that can be easily incorporated in your own wardrobe,” Hypes says. The company also recently launched Mini Mott for girls online, with rash-guards, hooded cover-ups, long-sleeved T’s, dresses, and baby blankets.
Local company Snikwah makes shirts and hats for adults and kids from moisture-wicking, breathable DriRelease fabric, which also provides a 50 UPF rating and a convertible neck to adjust the level of protection and guard against the elements in all outdoor activities, especially surfing and other water sports. Snikwah also supplies custom shirts for local fishing tournaments. Find the shirts at Old Naples Surf Shop, Rose Marina in Marco Island, Brookside Paddlesports, Naples, and online.
