Fashion trends come and go, but Marissa Hartington’s sense of style is proving to be timeless. For 38 years, Hartington has offered thoughtfully edited selections of everything from contemporary ready-to-wear to couture in her internationally lauded retail boutique, Marissa Collections. Hartington, a native of Poland who first came to Naples in the ’70s from Saratoga Springs, New York, with a friend, prides herself on her ability to find special pieces. “If I’ve seen it, I don’t want it,” she says. As a result, Hartington, along with the assistance of her husband, Burt, and their son, Jay, has grown the store into a Third Street South destination for wardrobe must-haves that continues to evolve with both its clientele and the town itself. By establishing a level of trust with her customers, Hartington is able to buy boldly and creatively and “push the envelope a little” with her style choices. “My clients don’t want to look like a walking designer advertisement. They want that extra-extra…and we offer that extra-extra.” Hartington makes it clear that the store’s success doesn’t have her resting on her laurels. The shop changes to keep things current and exciting—the newly launched Jewelry Gallery is the latest example. She’s working 24 hours a day to keep the reputation she spent so much time building. “There was a little bit of luck involved, but nothing can happen without a vision, a love for what you ?do and tremendous dedication.”
