Need help deciphering the latest summer fashion trends? We reached out to some of Naples’ “hautest” boutiques for advice on what’s hot, what’s not and a few picks to keep cool this summer.
Who: Marilyn Hellman (right), owner of Marilyn’s Distinctive European Fashion.
Her summer trend forecast: Cotton and linen dresses, watercolor prints, white patent leather shoes, long pendant necklaces, small, breamed straw hats.
PLEASE NO: Long cotton dresses or long skirts. “They are meant to be on the beach. Take them off after that.”
Her summer picks
“Fun for summer in our shop is a stretch cotton dress from Barcelona ($398, designed by Fortino Tatia). It is low-wrinkle, takes little care, travels well and looks great on.”
Pastel print scarves from Como ($249) can add some pop to an otherwise simple ensemble. “They are a beautiful cashmere and Modal blend, and so soft to the touch.”
Favorite Beachy Celebrities
“Kate Middleton is our number one. But also Nicole Kidman, Victoria Beckham, and Mila Kunis.”
“I wear a great wrinkled blouse made in Torino, with a beautiful wash-and-hang-dry fabric from Como, Italy. Plaid or striped is my favorite, but the greatest is a plaid with a small front ruffle. I love earrings that lighten up the face [made of] colored crystal or resin, depending on what I am wearing. I like to wear a few great pieces that define my outfit.”
