For the past 11 years, David R. Wilkinson, M.D., a board-certified urologist, has practiced in the Naples area. His specialties are laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive treatment of prostatic diseases. Additionally, he has in-depth training and experience in daVinci© robotic prostatectomy and other da Vinci© robotic system applications.

Dr. Wilkinson started his medical career as a respiratory therapist until his especially caring
attitude toward patients led a colleague to suggest that he attend medical school. Later, Dr. Wilkinson planned to be an emergency room physician until he realized once patients
left, he never knew their outcomes. He wanted a medical career where he had long-term
relationships with his patients. That coupled with his love of surgery, led him to urology.

Dr. Wilkinson places supreme importance on explaining his diagnosis as precisely as he
can, while educating his patients with options to make appropriate treatment decisions. “My job is to give patients all of the information,” he explains.

Dr. Wilkinson’s warm, friendly, lecture-free office makes his patients feel welcome. “I feel very fortunate to have such an experienced staff who really cares about our patients,” he says.

“I believe the biggest mistake in medicine is not communicating with your patients,” he adds. “My partners feel the same way. If you leave here not understanding about your diagnosis, I’ve failed at my job.”
