Winemaker for a weekend

 hotel crillon le brave

If there is anything better than a glass of wine in the Provencal countryside, it is helping pick the grapes that go into that wine. Hotel Crillon le Brave, 25 miles northeast of Avignon, offers visitors its Vendanges package to foster an appreciation for the grape harvest.

From Sept 29 to Oct 2, the height of the vendanges in the region, the hotel is offering a package including:

  • Three nights accommodation
  • Breakfast and dinner daily
  • One picnic lunch
  • Two half-day excursions to the vineyards, to help pick grapes and learn about the winemaking process from vintner Paul Chaudiere

The property itself is a gem within the heart of Provence’s wine country. It consists of seven 16th and 17th century stone buildings, for a total of 23 rooms, seven suites and a two-bedroom apartment. Known for its authentic Provencal cuisine, the property has long been popular with foodies who come to partake of the region’s cornucopia and take cooking courses.

The Vendanges package starts at 1,300 euros for a standard room.
