The much-anticipated Seabourn Sojourn made a cameo appearance in Fort Lauderdale this week. The newest vessel in the Seabourn fleet, it lives up to the reputation that won the cruise line first place among small cruise ships (Conde Nast Traveler 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards).
The Seabourn ships, Sojourn included, look and live like yachts. The service, the food, and the accommodations feel very intimate, unlike a typical cruise line. Their size also allows them to enter ports that are inaccessible to larger ships—a bonus indeed for those of us who appreciate off-the-beaten-path destinations. Another bonus: Sojourn‘s spa is the largest of any luxury vessel at 11,400 square feet. Size also matters when it comes to suites. The Grand Wintergarden Suite includes a whopping 1,182 square feet of indoor space, plus another 215 square feet of veranda space. Very, very nice.
Sojourn will host its maiden World Cruise, a 111-day voyage from Los Angeles to Southampton, England, departing January 5, 2011. For the holidays, the ship will be on a 16-day Panama Canal cruise, transiting the Canal on Christmas Day. Terry Hughes, who produced such hits as The Golden Girls, Friends and 3rd Rock from the Sun, will be the lecturer onboard.
