With 2017 almost upon us, it’s time to start thinking about end-of-the-year celebrations. Ring in the New Year with a fabulous party inspired by these five tips for making your fête the best.
1. Pick a Theme
Before you do anything else, make sure to pick a theme for your gathering and put it in place right away. “Invitations set the mood,” says Lisa Reece, owner of Extraordinary Eventz. “They are the first thing people see or hear about your party, so it’s good to pick a theme or color scheme that will continue throughout the entire party.” Whatever you choose – from Roaring Twenties to the Golden Age of Hollywood, something sleek and sophisticated to something bright and wild – the theme can inform food choices, signature cocktail names, music, and much more. Choosing one idea and sticking with it will often help all other decisions fall into place.
2. Plan Ahead
“It is never too early to start planning,” says Reece. “Allow plenty of time to prepare for your party.” She suggests making a list of everything that needs to be done in advance and scheduling the time to accomplish each item. It’s important to make sure you aren’t rushing to finish at the last minute, as that will only cause you unnecessary stress.
3. Hire Help
If you’d prefer not to deal with planning the party yourself or you don’t have much time, consider hiring a professional so you can relax and enjoy the party. Hosting a larger party also adds up to more work, and extra hands might be appreciated. “When you’re dealing with a larger group, it might be worthwhile to hire some extra help to keep on top of the cleanup,” Reece says. After all, you should be chatting with your guests during your party, not gathering garbage.
4. Create Ambiance
Décor is key to creating your dream New Year’s Eve party. Choose music and unique decorations that tie in with your theme to maximize its effect. “Creative lighting will contribute much to the atmosphere,” adds Reece. “Try replacing some bulbs with colored lamps or low-wattage bulbs, or using holiday candles.” Music choice is also important. “Music helps set the mood to a huge extent, so plan well for the mood you want to set for your party,” says Reece. In general, she suggests sticking to upbeat music for keeping your party lively.
5. Consider Logistics
Of course, aesthetic isn’t the only element of the party – you also have to consider the practical aspects, such as making provisions for parking and planning what to do in the event that your guests are unable to drive. “Remember, you are responsible for the safety of your guests, so do not encourage excessive drinking without offering overnight accommodations,” Reece says.
