We’re taking the standard margarita and giving it a Key lime twist with two recipe variation: the classic and the sweet, complete with Key lime/Meyer lemon sour mix. Cheers!
The Classic Florida Keys Margarita
- 1 1/2 oz. blanco tequila
- 3/4 oz. agave nectar
- 3/4 oz. fresh Key lime juice
Garnish:
- Key lime wedge
- Kosher salt
Method:
- Add a dash of salt to a small dish. Take a rocks glass and rub the Key lime wedge along the rim; dip glass into the salt to salt the rim.
- Add tequila, agave nectar and Key lime juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into rocks glass filled with ice and lime wedge.
For a sweeter version, try this rendition, complete with a Key lime sour mix:
Sweet Key Lime Margarita
- 1 1/2 oz. blanco tequila
- 1/2 oz. Cointreau
- 3 oz. Key lime sour mix (recipe below)
- Dash of Key lime juice
Garnish:
- Key lime wedge
- Kosher salt, coarse
Method:
- Salt rim as directed above.
- Add tequila, Cointreau, sour mix and lime juice to a cocktail shaker over ice; shake well. Strain into salt-rimmed glass over ice. Enjoy!
Key Lime/Meyer Lemon Sour Mix
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh squeezed Meyer lemon juice
- 1/2 cup fresh squeezed Key lime juice
Method:
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, add sugar and water. Heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and let cool.
- While simple syrup cools, strain freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice into sterilized re-sealable glass jar or bottle. Add cooled simple syrup; shake to thoroughly mix. Use immediately or refrigerate.
