Swan Lake

The Russian National Ballet Theatre will bring to life one of the most famous classical ballets, Swan Lake, to Artis—Naples on April 6. Telling the tragic story of Swan Queen Odette, a beautiful maiden turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart, and Siegfried, the Russian prince who fell for the enchanted Odette, Swan Lake was adapted from Russian folktales by famed composer Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky—the same creative mind behind the perennial Christmas-time favorite The Nutcracker and the now Disney-fied Sleeping Beauty.

Swan Lake - Russian National Ballet Theatre at Artis--Naples

One of the most internationally recognized ballets, Swan Lake has become part of the repertoire in ballet theaters around the world, adapted and infused into a number of films (Black Swan being the most recent), television programs and musical productions, while the musical composition has taken on a life of its own. For the Boca Ballet production, the theater will hold true to the choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, the minds behind the 1895 revival and the most popular version of the ballet.

  • The Russian National Ballet Theatre will stage one performance of Russia’s “national ballet,” Swan Lake on April 6 at 8 p.m.
