The Builder

If you ask Brian Stock, he’ll tell you he’s made a career out of designing desirable lifestyles, not building homes. Stock Development’s communities, like Lely Resort, Olde Cypress and Quail West, are well-thought-out social environments (including activities and an on-site lifestyle director) with a seamlessly executed attention to aesthetic details. A stickler for making good first impressions, Stock spent almost $1.4 million updating the entire entrance to Quail West. “We want to create a resort-style atmosphere that’s maintenance-free living,” he says. Stock’s strategy has proved successful even in challenging economic times. “When the market turned, we were still selling homes in our developments because we had created a lifestyle and an atmosphere that people wanted to buy,” Stock says. He claims the company’s consistent construction activity (anywhere between 100 and 120 spec homes are in the works at a time) also builds confidence with buyers. And while he recognizes that his expenses may be elevated compared to competitors’, he knows it’s the finished product that will help sell the vision and ultimately the home. “We want to create value for the customers who buy in our development because the most powerful marketing tool is a satisfied customer.”
